Pleasures of college life

In our country most of the young boys romanticize college life.A college is taken for a symbol of infinite liberty,luxury,enjoyment and adventure.Only a few students enter college to learn something.Most of the students get admission to avail themselves of the freedom found there.But there are certain students who are serious in their studies.They are hard working.They have lofty and sublime aims.Some students of this category intentionally avoid the pleasures of college life.We find few students who enjoy college life as well as studies and get positions.

College is a place full of fanciful dreams and glamor.When a teenager enters a college he or she thinks himself or herself an outstanding figure of society.It is simply because of the charms,attractions and pleasures of college life.

First of all,the students enjoy the changed atmosphere and attitude.A college student is mature enough to compare school life with college life.He sees the kind and the generous attitude of professors while the behavior of school teachers was always harsh and insulting.A college pleases students in a number of ways.They wear clean clothes and polished shoes.A student feels himself free from all bindings and fetters.He avails himself of all the opportunities and feels relaxed.Another pleasure of college life is vast range of co-curricular activities.Students get better chances to study library books.They may ask learned professors about anything.And in this way,they may quench their thirst of knowledge without difficulty.Quiz programs,various competitions in the field of Qirat,Naat Khani,Debates,poetry,games and athletics create competitive environment.A large number of clubs,societies,associations and college union produce young leadership for society.All these activities are a part of fun,pleasure,entertainment and enjoyment.These inculcate the students with a sense of thrill and fervor.

Shakespeare has rightly said that there is nothing either good or bad but thinking makes it so.The same quotations may be applied to those who spoil themselves in college.They are absorbed in the intoxicating fancies of college life.They go beyond their basic aim and are distracted from the real objective.They go astray and fall victim to aimlessness.They should keep their eyes and mind open in order to learn and enjoy the pleasures of college life i.e.academic.If a student knows his rights and duties,he can enjoy the pleasures of college as well as can get position in his examination.

Pollution

The term "Pollution" can be defined as the presence in or introduction into the environment of a substance or thing that has harmful or poisonous effects.The level of pollution in the air is rising.Pollution is an issue of concern in the modern world that we live in today.There are many types of pollution.Pollution in our environment will undoubtly affect our quality of life.Our naturally beautiful world becoming ugly because it is suffering from the effects of environmental pollution.Pollution can also cause various health problems and other negative effects.

Our religion ,Islam, is a true natural religion.It lays stress on purity,cleanliness,discipline and order in everything and every attitude.Pollution is something contrary to all these values.In our country,it has become one of the most crucial problems because it relates directly to human health and life.

There are many forms of pollution.The most prominent of these are land-pollution,air-pollution and water-pollution.Land-pollution includes the chemical wastage of industries,garbage and household trash.We can easily get rid of this pollution if we realize its harms.We must learn to keep our environment neat and clean.Public awareness in this connection can play a vital role.We must teach people how to dispose of their garbage properly.Air pollution is mainly caused by gases,smoke and chemicals the industries discharge into the atmosphere.Although the industrialism has given us many benefits,it has proved a plight in merry disguise.The side effects of these industries are inflicting negative impacts on human health.We can check air-pollution by making certain strict laws and by enforcing them in true letter and spirit.The third kind of pollution is water-pollution.It is most dangerous and even fatal for marine life.Fish,which is an important part of our food,is badly affected by water-pollution.Water is life.If it is impure,life itself will be on stake.The garbage and the waste of factories are thrown into canals,rivers and the seas.The practice is dangerous and must be checked with iron hands.Another kind of pollution is noise-pollution.Excessive use of horns damages our ear-drum.Constant exposure to such an environment can make us deaf.High pitched loud music and pressure horns are the main sources of this type of pollution.This can be checked by implementing strict laws.

Another invisible but critical and crucial type of pollution is moral or mental pollution.It is the most dangerous foe for humanity.Only true religious commandments,self realization and fear of Allah can check this type of pollution.Being Muslims and Pakistanis, it is our duty to root out all types of pollution and make our environment safe for us.

Kashmir issue

Kashmir is still an unsettled issue of the plan of the partition of the sub-continent.According to the plan of the division of the sub-continent,people of different areas were allowed to join either India or Pakistan.The areas where the Muslims were in majority became Pakistan.The 80% population of Kashmir consisted of the Muslims.They wanted to join Pakistan.Hari Singh,the ruler of Kashmir plotted against Pakistan and signed the agreement of accession to India.India occupied the territory unlawfully.The people of Kashmir fought against India for their freedom and freed a part of Kashmir from Indian occupation.That freed part of Kashmir is now under the control of Pakistan.The rest of Kashmir is held by India.Pakistan and India fought two wars over this issue but the problem could not be decided.

It needs the attention of the world to solve the problem of Kashmir.Though the resolutions of UNO still exist for the solution of the problem,no solid steps have yet been taken in this direction.The whole world is realizing the gravity of the problem.Now when both the countries related to this problem have become the atomic powers,the need for the solution of the problem has become the most urgent.

At present,the situation of peace in Kashmir is very bad.The Indian armed forces are trying to crush the freedom of movement of Kashmiris .They are killing children,murdering men and insulting women.In spite of all this,the people of Kashmir are determined to get freedom from India.Kashmir,the paradise on earth is burning.It is waiting for someone to come to put out its fierce flames.The following measures may be of some help towards the solution of this problem.

Now the problem of Kashmir has become on of the important problems of the world.The government of Pakistan should take advantage of the situation.It should send delegations to different countries to highlight the issue.The world should be informed about the violation of human rights in Indian held Kashmir.The problem should be discussed through solid arguments on every international forum.The Muslims countries should be request to support us in this respect.The UNO may be asked to send its forces in Indian held Kashmir to hold a just plebiscite.Human Right Organizations should be asked to come in the valley to observe the situation themselves.I am sure if we are earnest and sincere ,the problem would be solved in near future.

An ideal student

A student is one who wants to get knowledge.He studies the objects of nature.He meditates on the universe to discover more and more.Though man has learnt a lot,the struggle for discovery is not yet over.The Holy Prophet SAW said that every person should get knowledge from the lap of his mother till death.Thus,there is no end to knowledge.

The first quality of an ideal student is that he should be steady in his research.He should work to learn more and more.The student who is not consistent in his quest cannot be successful.

The ideal student should be industrious.He should not lose heart in difficulties.He should be firm in his aims.He should cover long distances,cross vast deserts and mount high hills for the achievement of his objectives.He should have the patience of Job and the willpower of Noah.

The ideal student should be a man of character.The object of education is to spread politeness and good manners.He should be virtuous and honest in his dealings.He should be kind and generous to others.

The ideal student should be meek and humble.He should not be proud of his knowledge.He should respect his teachers and the fellow students.Knowledge teaches humbleness not pride.

The ideal student must enjoy good health.He should not be a book-worm.He should take part in physical activities as well.It is said that a sound body possess a sound mind.A good student should be a good debater,a first-rate player and a fine athlete.He should participate in all good activities.

The ideal student also proves to be a good citizen.He is always helpful to his country fellows.He loves the ideology of the country.He never breaks law for his personal gains.He proves himself a true patriot.He loves his country,culture, and traditions.

The ideal student should show discipline in every field of life.He should follow the three principles told by the founder of Pakistan:Faith,Unity and Discipline."He should lead a planned life.He should observe the codes of ethics and discipline.He should not be reckless and careless in his doings.He must be balanced and rational in his attitude.

A visit to a historical place

Historical heritage is a great asset of a country.The living nations always protect their historical traditions.They feel proud of these works of genius.Pakistani culture is rich in every respect.I love the whole Pakistani culture.The things that attract me the most in this respect are the historical buildings of Pakistan.Last summer,my friends and i made a program to visit the historical places of Lahore.We started from Multan and reached Lahore in the twilight of evening.We spent a night in a hotel.

The next day,we were much excited.We decided to visit the tomb of Jehangir.We hired a taxi and reached the tomb.The four minarets of the tomb were presenting a very majestic view.The tomb was surrounded by a wall.Its entrance was very beautiful.There was a park inside the wall.The park was full of the blooming flowers.They were spreading their fragrance all around.It was a very charming sight.There were some cool shady trees.Many birds were sitting in the twigs of these trees.They were chirping.

In front of tomb,there was a beautiful fountain.It was sprinkling its light shower.The drizzling of drops produced a charming music.The place in the words of S.T.Coleridge was"A savage place...holy and enchanted"

Soon afterwards,we entered the edifice that contains the grave of the emperor.There we pondered over the mystery of death for sometime.The room was decorated with colorful designs.We offered "Fateha" and prayed to God to bless the emperor with eternal blessings.The building itself is a wonderful place of Muslim architecture.

We went up to the terrace and had a view of the city of Lahore.It was a beautiful sight.The cool breeze and deep blue sky had a magical effect on us.We came down and sat under a tree to take some rest.We ate some eatables and drank cold drinks.We made some of the floral and mosaic designs that we had seen in the chamber of the tomb.In the evening we returned to our hotel.Our minds were full of solemn thoughts.We were pondering over the mystery of death and eternity of nature.We agreed with Shakespeare:

"In Nature's infinite book of secrecy
A little I can read."

Boy scouts

The scouts Association was founded by Baden Powell,a British,in 1910.The movement spread very fast because its objectives were simple and noble.

The aim of the movement is the development of good citizenship among the rising generation.Active self-expression is encouraged among the scouts and emphasis is laid upon their natural desire to learn rather than their passive reception of instructions.There are absolutely no distinctions of class,creed or color among scouts.The movement is non-military,non-class,non-sectarians,non-political and non-denominational.Honor is the ideal.The scout law,which forms the basis of ten events and which every scout has to obey.It was taken the Code Of The Knights and as such has its roots in the code of honor and gentlemanliness.

The movement is sub-divided into three groups,via,reserve, i.e. scouts of 17 years and above,boy scouts from 11 to 17 years and Wolf Cubs juniors from 8 to 11.The training is carried out generally four main features...namely character and intelligence,skill and handicraft,physical health and self-care and the practice of service to others and to the state.In other words scouts are trained with a view to developing their individuality and making them loyal members of the state.The training precedes mainly through open air activities ad scouts are encouraged to follow the examples of frontier men,tribesmen and explores in daring and initiative.There is an elaborate system of badges for proficiency which serves to stimulate the boys to develop their natural gifts and become all round handy man.

A boy, wishing to become a scout is required to take an oath.He holds fast to his noble promise under all circumstances.He fulfills his duty to God Almighty,to his country and to the people in distress.Besides,he has a keen sense of loyalty to human and moral values.

A boy scout is expected to be a well-balanced person.His morals are without a blemish.He enjoys a very sound physical and mental health.He is eager to help the injured,the needy and the handicapped.He refrains from hurting the feelings of others.

Moreover,a boy scout has the qualities of leadership.He is firm and noble in command.He is humble and willing in obedience.He learns useful crafts and skills.He is efficient in using a knife and an axe,in trying to tie up various knots,in cooking food and in pitching a tent.

In peace and emergencies,a boy scout shows courage,responsibility and self-confidence.

A visit to a hill station

My love of adventure comes natural to me.The degree of love varies from person to person.My adventuresome spirit prompted me, and a friend of mine suggested to visit Naran in the Kaghan valley.One july morning we left for A bbotabad by bus and reached there in the after-noon.The journey was tiring and we slept soundly for the night.Next morning we left for Balakot.On the way,we passed by Jangal Mngal and Jabba,over 20 kilometers from Mansehra.Around Jabba there was a thick forest and the beauty of the landscape was simply breathtaking.There were very sharp,hairpin turns on the road near Batrasi.

We saw the conjunction point where the river Kunhar meets two other streams near Garhi Habibullah.The hills around looked beautiful with clouds clung round their tops.There was a rope bridge over the Kunhar near Shohan.

It was a strange experience to hear the noise of the rushing river water at Balakot.The noise was all around.Everwhere,inside shops,houses,mosques and out on the roads,open spaces and slopes,the noise dominated.At night when i woke up,i could hear this noise in the hotel room also.In the evening we visited Shah Ismail Shaheed's grave in the outskirts of Balakot.Balakot was devastated by the severe earthquake on Oct.8,2005.The site-plan will give a new look to Balakot.

The road to Kaghan was in a bad shape.It was high in upper half of the high mountain slope and the river Kunhar looked like a ribbon far below.There were many dangerous turns.Our jeep crossed about eight glaciers from Kaghan to Naran.

Naran is 7890 feet above the sea-level.It was very still in the woods around Naran.There were logs in the river.There was a fast flowing ice-cold stream from Saif-ul-Maluk lake to the Kunhar at Naran.The sight was really breath-taking.

All around there were summits and slopes and the noise of the rushing stream.The saif-ul-maluk Lake is 10537 feet above sea-level and over 12 Km from Naran.There was a huge glacier on the way up from Naran.

It was an extremely enjoyable and unforgettable.We were thoroughly refreshed when we came back from Naran.

Village life

Village life is most of the remarkably quiet.A village is made up of farmhouses,mud-houses,uneven dirt lanes and ponds.There are dung-hills,heaps of rubbish and rows of dung-cakes.

Inside the village there is practically no vehicular traffic.Occasionally there is a whirring tractor or squeaking bullock cart in some of the outer lanes.In some of the big courtyards there are clusters of shady trees.Outside the village there is usually a big bunyan tree along the pond.Village folks and some of their cattle take rest under its ample shade in summer.The minarets of the village mosque rise high above the low skyline of a village.The 'azan' is the welcome,familiar sound in the quiet village five times a day.

There are cattle and cart-sheds,dark and ill-smelling,where cows and buffaloes are kept.There are a couple of stables for horses and a few poultry houses.The chickens,ducks and geese are free to run about in the open spaces as they please.When all the birds and animals make their cries,the village is a somewhat a noisy place for a while.The donkeys bray,the cocks crow,the hens cackle and cluck.The ducks in dirty drains quack,the horses neigh,the bulls bellow,the cows low.The dogs bark and growl,the cats mew and the owls screech at night.

The tough farmer ploughs his fields in the morning.The harvest time is very busy.Men,women and children work together at seed and harvest time.A hard life indeed!

The village folks are really the backbone of our country.They are stout of hearts and strong of limbs.They face harsh conditions in villages and around,but they seldom complain.As compared with big city,they seem to have stepped back into another century.

Horrors of science

It is generally believed that science is a mixed blessing.It has various uses and abuses.Though the advantages of science are far greater than its disadvantages,it has caused a fatal threat to human life,the atomic war.Destructive weapons are the result of science.Though the world is trying to solve the disputed issues through peaceful talks,the world is standing on the edge of total destruction.The most deadly weapons of science are the atomic weapons.As almost all the countries are linked socially,economically or religiously,any war may be a world war.It is science which is to be blamed for the creation of germ warfare and chemical bombs,missiles and bombers.

Science has invented many machines and tools for man.Though these machines have replaced man in many fields of life.The plus point for these machines is that they are more accurate and quick in their performance than man.But they have made the services of man slow and therefore unnecessary .Man has become unemployed.Unemployment is the sure cause of many social and economical evils.Thus the process of fall of human society starts.

The next negative effect of the use of machines is that man has become lazy and idle.He needs not travel on foot.He can cover long distances in a short time by fast moving cars,buses,trains and airplanes.At home,there is no need of broom;the vacuum cleaners are there to suck the least dust from every corner.Washing machines wash the soiled clothes in minutes.There are computers for his service.There are TV,DVD and digital receiver for his entertainment.All kinds of facilities have made man idle and lazy.

Today one of the grave problems is pollution.Ir ,water,and eatables,all are polluted.Science is somewhat responsible for this pollution.Big factories,heavy vehicles,trains and many other things of this sort are adding smoke,poisonous wastage,dust and other harmful particles to air,water and soil.The polluted things have caused many untreatable diseases.In spite of the modern medical research,many people die of these diseases.Science is responsible for all this.

Science has made man spiritually dead.He has forgotten the moral and spiritual values of the past.Science is responsible for the race of money.Everyone is busy in earning for spending.We have no time to meditate on nature.We are leading an artificial life.We are no more interested in the sights of nature.

Science has made man selfish and insincere.He needs money to enjoy the new inventions of science.To earn money,he ignores the moral values.Even,sometimes,he commits hateful crimes for the fulfillment of his evil prevail in society.Thus science indirectly is the cause of spread of these evils in society.

Truly speaking,we may blame science for many evils in society but in fact it is man not science who uses it for his evil purposes.Science is a blessing;the need is that we should use it positively.Science has neither forced us to produce lethal weapons,nor compelled us to be selfish.If we have used it for evil purposes,it is our fault not of science.

Corruption

Corruption is the absence of honesty and virtue.Usually,the society void of law and order is a corrupt society.In such societies people do not do their duties well and try to work for their personal benefits.Corrupt people do not abide by laws and adopt evil means to get their aims.They discard morality and good manners.The society where such people are in majority is called corrupt society.These people cause many evils in society.No measures can bring good fruit unless corruption is uprooted.Corruption is a flea that sucks the blood of the nation and the country.Pitiless measures should be taken to end corruption from society for the uplift of a country.

There are many causes of corruption.Anyhow the sole cause of corruption is to get more and more riches.People think corruption a shortcut to be prosperous.They adopt different evil ways to this end.Corruption has become a fashion in almost all the fields of life.

The most obvious cause of corruption is ignorance.In Pakistan a large number of people are ignorant.They do not know their rights and duties.They show no interest in national activities because they do not understand them.They have no sense to elect honest representatives.As a result corrupt people come to throne.These representatives instead of working for the welfare of society,struggle for their own interests.They do not bother to adopt proper means to get their ends.Rather they adopt corrupt means to get their objectives.Therefore corruption prevails in society.

Poverty is another cause of corruption.Poor people when cannot fulfill their needs fall prey to corruption.Their income is too short to fulfill their needs.The person,who cannot buy food and medicine for his children,does not pay any attention to morality.He can easily be tempted to evil deeds.

The unequal distribution of wealth is another cause of corruption.In Islamic society,a tax i.i. Zakat is taken from the rich and is given to the poor.In the great days of Islam there was no one so poor as to receive Zakat.Therefore the money of Zakat was spent on the works of public welfare.Now people do not pay Zakat and alms.And that has resulted in an unequal distribution of wealth.

The following measures can help to eradicate corruption from society.First of all,the government should take solid steps for the spread of education.Secondly,the government should improve the economic condition of the country.Better economic condition would end poverty from society.In this regard,government should encourage investment.Moreover,the punishment for the corrupt people should be severe.Anti-corruption department should be made active and effective for the eradication of corruption.

Unemployment

Unemployment means the joblessness of those who are able and willing to work.Unemployment is a serious social problem.The ratio of unemployment is constantly increasing.

Economists have categorized the causes of unemployment as frictional,seasonal,structural, and cyclical.

Frictional unemployment arises when workers try to seek such jobs as may fit their ability and taste.Friction in this case refers to the unsuitability between the worker and the job available.A worker may give up his old job and try to look for a new one.Sometimes,it takes time to find a new suitable job.This type of unemployment can be reduced somewhat by providing the workers with a variety of suitable jobs.

Seasonal unemployment occurs when industries have a slow season.Ours is an agricultural country.In the crop season,new jobs are created.Particularly in cotton season,cotton factories are run.Then workers are employed there.But when the cotton season is over,the factories are closed and the workers are unemployed.Thus unemployment occurs.

Structural unemployment arises from an imbalance between the kinds of workers wanted and the kinds of workers available.The imbalances may be caused by lack of skills,location,or personal likes or dislikes.New rapid developments are taking place in technology.This necessitates new skilled workers in industries.Thus industries employ new skilled workers.As a result,the old workers who have outdated skills are left without a job.Sometimes,a plant in a declining industry is closed.It throws the workers out of work.Sometimes,a plant is shifted to another place.The workers who are unable or unwilling to move to the area are left jobless.

Cyclical unemployment results from a general lack of demand for labor.When the business cycle turns downwards,demand for goods and services drops;the workers are laid off.

Unemployment is not a pretty problem in its nature.It is a very grave problem.It hinders the smooth running of a country.Therefore,it should be tackled before it paralyzes the whole structure of society.The following steps can be of tremendous help in this regard.

First,the education system should be modified.The present system is producing such educated men as are good for nothing.They are not skilled and technically trained.To make the situation even worse,they expect decent jobs.They do not accept menial jobs and ,therefore,remain unemployed.The government should introduce such system of education as may produce skilled workers.In this regard,vocational and technical institutes should be opened.Second,new industries should be set up to create more opportunities for employment.Third,steps should be taken to control the population.Fourth,cottage industry should be promoted in towns and villages.If these steps are taken,the problem may be solved.

Science in the Service of Man

Science is an objective study of nature and its laws.It is an unending search for truth.It is the most useful quest of man.It has proved to be a faithful friend of mankind.Its great services in the fields of agriculture,industry,medicine, and traveling are amazing.It has increased human comfort with its vast range of inventions.It urges man to discover new secrets of the universe.It is an unending source of human struggle.

Life is a constant struggle.Man has to toil throughout his life to meet the needs of life.He has to face the odds and dangers of life.It is science that has helped man to make a safe home for him.Now the service of science is even more wonderful than the wonders of magic.Now there is no need to live in the caves or the underground holes.Man has built high and magnificent buildings.The houses are full of the facilities provided by science.Science has made human life very comfortable and safe.

In the past man had to travel on foot.Now traveling has become a pleasure for him.He can travel through the world for pleasure's sake only.It is no more difficult and dangerous.Man has got the better of birds in their flight.Man has invented more speedy airplanes than sound by which he can cover long distances in a short time.Trains,buses,cars and taxies all are available to convey us anywhere across the country.Man is no more sad to say good bye to his near ones.He can contact them in seconds on telephone,internet and by other means of communication.All this is possible because of science.

Science has provided us with many means of information,entertainment,amusement and fun.TV,Radio,Dish Antenna,Cinema,DVD, and Computer all are the sure means of entertainment.Computer has changed the world into a global village.Man can participate in any activity around the world.The attainment of knowledge is now easier than ever before.

Science has performed wonders in the field of medicine.Now even the fatal diseases have been controlled.Wonderful drugs cure man of his diseases.The most important of all is that it has given man a scientific outlook.Man has become rational in his approach .Science has reached its highest point in the field of surgery also.

In short,science is such a great blessing as has proved useful in every field of life.It is because of science that this era has been declared as an age of light and knowledge.It has broadened our outlook and views.Now we think in a broader sense.
