Football player

<br /> Essay on "Football Player"<br />

My dream job in the future would be professional football player. I have loved the game of football since I was a little kid because it’s a good sport and you can tackle the player and catch and do anything in the sport as long as you follow the rules. The colleges that I’m looking forward to go to are UNC, Oregon, or Appalachian State.

If a football player is interested in becoming a professional football player, it’s essential to be on a college football team. If a player wants to go to the pros, he should attend a college that puts a lot of emphasis on its football program. If the player shows promise on a college team, that’s one way to open the door to being successful. Players need to learn about the sport, in addition to knowing the rules, regulations, and policies. They should read about the history and about the players of the past (Field 11). It is also imperative that the athlete train to become a professional football player and start out early like youth football leagues (“How…Professional”).

NFL players need an education in case of injuries or if they can’t play for any reason. Players can have a degree in any type of subject. If a player wants to play in the NFL, he has to attend a college or a university that has a good football program. Some players come from high school but most players come from a four year college (Field 11). If you have a son that is going to be in the NFL who wants to play linemen, he has to be about 6’8” tall and weigh around 350 lbs. Players have to know the game. They can’t hope to be a NFL player if they don’t understand how to play the game (Green 174).

The training and practices required to play professional football are intense. You have to wear uncomfortable pads and helmets and endure grueling practices in the heat of the summer and you have to lift weights every day (Green 174). You have to train no matter what position you play. What’s important about is how the position works and how it contributes to the game. Young boys must join high school football team, the road to football star begins in high school. Scouts check out high school seniors, and how well they perform in high school, and also high school can lead to a D-1A or D-1AA college scholarship (How…Football).

There are many different types of positions that are in the NFL. If want to be linemen in the NFL you have to be at least six feet tall and weigh around 300 to 350 pounds. If you want to be a kicker and get in the NFL, it’s a little easier. You have to have strong legs and be able to kick the ball. If a boy is 5’’6 and wants to play in the NFL they have to run a 4.2 on a 40 yard dash to even be considered. There are many different positions in NFL, but a player has to be very good to play any position (Green 173).

The thrill of playing in an NFL game is like climbing to the summit of a mountain (Green 2). There’s the adrenaline rush like “… when a mad scientist bottled up adrenaline rush, mixed with a bolt of lightning, the hardness of a nuclear flash, all shot directly into your aorta” (Green 3). And there’s the satisfaction of making it. It’s not like any other sport because no one gets their raw talent alone (Green 2). If a player can’t play in NFL there are many other different professional leagues like the national leagues in Canada (CFL) and in Europe (EFL) (Field 11).

Players use a lot of drugs in the NFL. For example, first a player drinks coffee to stay awake in the game. Next he takes a caffeine pill or something else. Then there are full-blown amphetamines. There are also all the pain medications like anti-inflammatories, Motrin, Advil, and finally Butazolidin. It’s the same with weight lifting. First the players may use protein supplements, and then steroids (Green 9). Then there is Clenbuterol, the drug used for race horses, and finally human growth hormones (Green 59). The bad thing about using these drugs is that it is harmful and that it can lead to health problems. They have even been linked to terminal brain cancer if you use it a lot and it can also kill the player (Green 110).

A NFL player salary makes in his career can be from $225,000 up to $20 million plus dollars (Field 10). There is a salary cap in the NFL, than means each team in the NFL has a limit on how much each team can spends on its player’s salaries each season. Back in 1994 the limit on spending each player was 34.6 million. 95 i was about 37.1 million. The amount is equal to 63% of what the league calls it DGR designated gross revenue. The money that the players get is television, radio, and gate receipts, the players share in this revenue. But not from club seats, luxury boxes, and enormous cash cow (Green 110).

Does this job fit’s me, well if I make the sport and get into the NFL this job fits me. But if I don’t make it in the NFL I rather go to another job which would be a Game developer or etc. I have to work hard every day in practice and train my best to do well in the sport and make the team also. I have to make good grades and do well in school also to be in the pros.

GOOD BYE FOR THE NEXT POST.
